Rodents Removal in Virginia & North Carolina

The rodents are amongst the most successful mammals in North Carolina and Virginia.  They are able to adapt and colonize on many different types of land masses. They also have the ability to reproduce quickly and feed on many different types of food.

In order to have effective rat and mouse control and to manage your rodent problems, understanding about them will help and prove the best way to get rid of them.

Common Types of Rodent

The most common types of rodent is the House Mouse, Norway Rat and the Black Rat (otherwise known as the Roof Rat).

Rodent Appearance

The House Mouse is the number one rodent pest in most parts of the world.  They range in size to between 5″ and 8″ and weigh between 1/2 to 1 ounce.  Colors vary from light brown to nearly black. The tail is semi naked and about as long as the body and head combined. They live inside and outside.

The Norway Rat is a relatively large rat and an adult measures about 16″ and weighs around 12 ounces.  They are grayish brown  but may vary from pure gray to a blackish reddish brown.  The length of the tail is shorter than the body.  The are excellent climbers and will enter homes in the fall when food sources become scarce.

The Roof Rat is a medium sized rat and an adult again measures around 16″ and weights about 8 ounces.  They are not always black but may be wholly black or brown backed with the belly varying in color.  The tail is longer than the body. They can be found on upper parts of a building, but they can also be found under and in structures.

Why do I have rats or mice?

Rats and mice carry fleas, ticks, mites and lice. Their urine can not only cause allergies in children but some species urinate on food thereby contaminating it.

They can be destructive to insulation, duct work and electrical insulation. If they are cornered they will defend themselves. However they will almost always avoid an encounter with a human making it hard to catch them as they are quick.

As to why you have them, there can be a number of varying factors such as water or food sources, landscaping or easy entry points into the structure.

How to get rid of rats or mice

If you have tried getting rid of rats or mice using do it yourself exterminator methods like  mouse or rat bait or even repellent, then it may have been in vain until other issues are resolved like;

  • Sealing any cracks and crevices
  • Removing any moisture and harbourage sources
  • Storing firewood away from the structure
  • Removing any debris piles

We are experts in our field and from years of training and experience we can find the sources of entry.  Once found we can use our rodent control expertise to rid of your rat and mouse problems from your home or commercial property.
